Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to universe.app and Universe platform technology, and all other Universe websites, apps, developer platforms, and other products and services (collectively the “Services”).
We may modify this Privacy Policy from time to time, and if we make material changes to it, we will provide notice through our Service, or by other means so that you may review the changes before you continue to use our Services. If you object to any changes, you may close your account. Continuing to use our Services after we publish or communicate a notice about any changes to this Privacy Policy means that you are consenting to the changes.
Data Controllers
If you reside in the United States, then the personal information provided to or collected by our Services is controlled by Universe. We do not knowingly collect information of persons residing outside the United States. If you have any concern about providing information to us or having such information displayed on our Services or otherwise used in any manner permitted in this Privacy Policy and the User Agreement, you should not become a User, visit our websites, apps or otherwise use our Services. If you have already registered, you can close your accounts.
What Personal Information Does Universe Collect?
We collect the following types of information from our users:
E-mail addresses
We require your email address to provide Universe services. We may add your email address to our email list where we send email updates and requests for donations. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link present in every email. If you are having problems unsubscribing, you can unsubscribe by e-mailing [email protected], but please allow a week for processing.
Personal Information You Provide to Us
We may receive and store any information you submit through our Services (or otherwise authorize us to obtain – such as from, for example, your Facebook account). We also may collect the content you create, upload, or receive from others when using our services. The types of personal information collected may include your full name, email address, postal address, phone number, occupation, gender, media content, IP address, browser information, username, demographic information, employer, and, in some cases, employer’s address, and any other information necessary for us to provide the Application services. Such information may be shared publicly in aggregate (non-personally identifiable) form, or with our Application Partners as detailed below.
Personal Information Collected Automatically
We receive and store certain types of usage related information whenever you interact with Universe’s Services. For example, Universe may automatically receive and record information regarding your computer’s IP address, unique identifiers, browser type and settings, device type and settings, operating system, mobile network information including carrier name and phone number, and application version number. We also collect information about the interaction of your apps, browsers, and devices with our services, including IP address, crash reports, system activity, and the date, time, and referrer URL of your request, Facebook user ID, Facebook Page fan status, and URLs accessed. Such information may be shared publicly in aggregate (non-personally identifiable) form, or with our Application Partners as detailed below

Universe uses cookies and other technologies to ensure everyone who uses Universe has the best possible experience. Cookies also help us keep your account safe. By visiting our Services, you consent to the placement of cookies and beacons in your browser and HTML based emails in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
When Does Universe Use Cookies and Web Beacons?
We use cookies on any site (such as Universe.app) or mobile applications owned or developed by Universe. Any browser visiting these sites will receive cookies from us.
Does Universe use Do Not Track (DNT)?
DNT is a concept that has been promoted by regulatory agencies such as the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), for the Internet industry to develop and implement a mechanism for allowing Internet users to control the tracking of their online activities across websites by using browser settings. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has been working with industry groups, Internet browsers, technology companies, and regulators to develop a DNT technology standard. While some progress has been made, it has been slow. No standard has been adopted to this date. As such, Universe does not use “do not track” signals.
What Third Party Cookies Does Universe Use?
The use of cookies by third parties on the Website is for the purpose of making the Website easier to use and to enable certain features of the Website and is not covered by this Privacy Policy. We do not have control over these cookies. Please note that the names of cookies, pixels and other technologies may change over time.
Controlling Cookies
Most browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings preferences. However, if you limit the ability of websites to set cookies, you may worsen your overall user experience, since it will no longer be personalized to you. It may also stop you from saving customized settings like login information.
IP Addresses
We log IP addresses, which are the locations of computers or networks on the Internet, and analyze them for systems administration and troubleshooting purposes. We also aggregate the number of page hits in order to track the popularity of certain pages and improve the quality of our site.
Credit Card Information
We securely transmit your credit card information to one of our payment processors: Fattmerchant, PayPal, or Apple Pay. All credit card information is handled by our partner payment processors in accordance with current PCI standards. Universe does not store your credit card information on its systems. We may store non-PII tokens to enable recurring payments through our payment processors to ease future payments with a Universe account.
Consent to Information Processing
The personal information that you provide to us may reveal or allow others to identify aspects of your life that are not expressly stated on your profile (for example, your picture or your name may reveal your gender). By providing personal information to us when you create or update your account and profile, you are expressly and voluntarily accepting Universe’s Terms and Conditions freely accepting and agreeing to our processing of your personal information in ways set out by this Privacy Policy. Supplying to us any information deemed “sensitive” by applicable law is entirely voluntary on your part. You can withdraw or modify your consent to our collection and processing of the information you provide at any time – in accordance with the terms of this Privacy Policy and our Terms and Conditions – by changing your account settings or profile.
How does Universe use the information it collects?
Universe uses the information described in this Privacy Statement (i) internally, to analyze, develop and improve its products and services, and (ii) as set forth below in the “Will Universe Share any of the personal information it Collects” section below.
Will Universe Share Any of the Personal Information it Receives?
Personal information about our users is an integral part of our business. We neither rent nor sell your personal information to anyone (with the exception of sharing your information with an applicable Application Partner – see the “Application Partner section below). We share your personal information only as described below.
Application Partners
Universe may provide personal information to applicable Application Partners. The Partner’s use of your personal information is subject to this Privacy Statement.
Partners may receive reports about actions taken by Service users made through co-branded properties. These reports may include the dates, names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, contribution amounts, and demographic information..
Partners shall not (a) sell, rent, lease, lend, transfer, publish, share, or otherwise make available Universe’s services to any person other than an Authorized User, (b) reverse engineer, disassemble, decompile, decode, adapt, or otherwise attempt to derive or gain access to the source code of Universe’s services, (c) transmit any content, data, or information that is abusive, malicious, harassing, cruel, or unlawful; or transmit any content, data, or information in an unlawful manner; (d) access Universe’s services for the purpose of building a competitive product or service or copying its features or user interface, or (e) engage in any other conduct when using Universe’s services that Universe deems inappropriate or inconsistent with its Core Principles.
Third Party Vendors
We may employ third party companies and people to perform tasks on our behalf or facilitate our Services (e.g. maintenance, analysis, audit, marketing and development) and need to share your information with them to provide products or services to you. Unless we tell you differently, Universe’s agents do not have any right to use personal information we share with them beyond what is necessary to assist us. You hereby consent to our sharing of personal information for the above purposes.

Business Transfers
We may disclose your personal information to a third party as part of a sale or change in control of the assets of Universe, or in preparation for these events. Any third party to which we transfer or sell our assets will have the right to continue to use the personal and other information that you provide to us in the manner set out in this Privacy Policy.
Campaign Finance Compliance
Campaign finance law may require that we send your name, address, occupation, and employer information along with details of your donation to the recipient of your contribution and report this information in our reports to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) or the relevant respective state agency. Each candidate, committee, or organization receiving your donations may also include this information in their regulatory reports. FEC reports containing this information are publicly available from the FEC website. State reports are typically available through the state agency designated to oversee campaigns and elections. Universe does not publicly report your personal information in connection with your charitable or social welfare giving.
Protection of Universe and Others
We may release personal information when we believe in good faith that release is necessary to comply with the law; enforce or apply our conditions of use and other agreements; or protect the rights, property, or safety of Universe, our employees, our users, or others. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organizations for fraud protection and credit risk reduction.
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this Privacy Policy or the Terms and Conditions, you acknowledge, consent and agree that Universe may disclose information in order to:
- Comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request;
- Protect the rights, property and safety of Universe, Users and others, including intellectual property rights; and
- Enforce or apply our agreements and policies.
With Your Consent:
Except as set forth above, you will be notified when your personal information may be shared with third parties, and will be able to prevent the sharing of this information.
Conditions of Use
If you decide to use or otherwise access Universe Services, your use/access and any possible dispute over privacy is subject to this Privacy Statement and our Terms of Use, including limitations on damages, arbitration of disputes, and application of California state law.
Third Party Applications / Websites
The Application may permit you to link to other applications or websites. Such third party applications/websites are not under Universe’s control, and such links do not constitute an endorsement by Universe of those other applications/websites or the services offered through them. The privacy and security practices of such third party applications / websites linked to the Services are not covered by this Privacy Statement, and Universe is not responsible for the privacy or security practices or the content of such websites.
Data Retention
Universe reserves the right to retain your personal information for a period of 7 years or more only where required satisfy legal requirements such as recordkeeping and tax reporting requirements, as well as for purposes of fraud prevention, audit and data integrity.
We retain the personal information you provide while your account is in existence or as needed to provide you services. We may retain your personal information even after you have closed your account if retention is reasonably necessary to comply with our legal obligations, meet regulatory requirements, resolve disputes between Users, prevent fraud and abuse, or enforce this Privacy Policy and our User Agreement. We may retain personal information, for a limited period of time, if requested by law enforcement. Our Customer Service may retain information for as long as is necessary to provide support-related reporting and trend analysis only, but we delete or de-personalize closed account data consistent with our policies outlined above. Universe reserves the right to retain information that does not directly identify you, for example, aggregated or anonymized data.
Location of Data
Universe is headquartered in the United States. We do not knowingly collect information of persons residing outside the United States. Your personal information may be stored and accessed by Universe, our affiliates, service providers, agents and representatives in the United States or elsewhere in the world. By providing us with personal information, you consent to this transfer. Universe will protect the privacy and security of personal information according to this Privacy Policy regardless of where the personal information is processed or stored.
California’s Shine the Light Law
California Civil Code Section 1798.83, known as the “Shine The Light” law, permits our customers who are California residents to request and obtain from us a list of what personal information (if any) we disclosed to third parties for direct marketing purposes in the preceding calendar year and the names and addresses of those third parties. Requests may be made only once a year and are free of charge.
Right to Access, Correct, or Delete Your Information
You have a right to:
- Access, modify, correct, or delete your personal information controlled by Universe regarding your profile;
- Change or remove your content; and
- Close your account.
Universe allows you to access the following information about you for the purpose of viewing, and in certain situations, updating that information. This list may change in the event the Application changes.
- Account and user profile information
- User e-mail address, if applicable
- Facebook profile information, if applicable
- User preferences
- Application specific data
You can request your personal information that is not viewable on your profile or readily accessible to you (for example, your IP access logs) by written request to [email protected].
If you close your account, your information will generally be removed from the Service within 24 hours. We generally delete closed account information and will de-personalize any logs or other backup information through the deletion process within 30 days of account closure, except as noted below.
Minimum Age
The Website is intended to be used by adults. It is not intended for children, and Universe does not want to collect any personal information for persons who are under the age of 13. Universe recommends that parents do not post, or permit others to post, any personally identifiable information with respect to persons under the age of 13. Changes To This Privacy Policy
Universe may amend this Privacy Statement from time to time. Use of information we collect now is subject to the Privacy Statement in effect at the time such information is used. If we make changes in the way we use personal information, we will notify you by posting an announcement on our Site or sending you an email. Users are bound by any changes to the Privacy Statement when he or she uses or otherwise accesses the Application after such changes have been first posted.
